Having trouble staying awake in class? That seems to be a common problem many students face throughout the semester. Some students have early classes, while others cannot find the motivation, or just become bored. Coffee is always a top choice for many people, but what other solutions are there? This list is for those of you trying to cut down on your caffeine intake!
- Take cold showers in the morning:
Studies show that not only are cold showers good for your skin, but they also wake you up in the morning. Many people find it harder to fall asleep when conditions are chillier.
- Eat a healthy breakfast
Your entire day can be determined by what you eat in the morning. Fruits, vegetables, and foods that are high in protein and carbohydrates are all good sources to target.
- Listen to “pump up” music on the way to class
Listening to your favorite upbeat song as you make your way to class will get you hyped up to take on the day!
- Sit in the front row of class
Putting yourself in the front row brings an added “pressure” that motivates you to keep yourself from slacking off. You’ll be less tempted to pull out your phone or drift asleep.
- Interact with teachers and classmates
Participating in class is an easy way to stay awake. Engaging yourself is a sure fire way to keep you focused on the task at hand!
- Doodle in your notebook
If you need to take a short break from a lecture to wake yourself back up, bring out your creative side!
- Stay active
Sit straight. Stretch. Bounce your leg. Whatever it is, keep your body up and alert. Staying active will keep your mind from becoming drowsy.
- Chew Gum
Chewing on gum or other small candies not only allows you to focus on something while listening to lecture, but it also keeps the blood flowing to your brain.
- Stay hydrated
Your body needs water, and plenty of it. Staying hydrated will make you feel more alert and refreshed.
- Get a good night sleep
The obvious answer! Getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep the night before will allow you to have the energy you need to take on the day.
