Should’ve Been Us by Tori Kelly
Twenty-two year old Tori Kelly slowly gained recognition for her voice at the young age of 14 as she posted cover videos on YouTube and appeared on television programs such as America’s Most Talented Kids and American Idol. She used this success as a stepping stone to release two EP’s that garnered attention and her debut studio album, Unbreakable Smile, was released on June 23rd, 2015. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and lead single, “Nobody Love”, peaked at #60. “Should’ve Been Us” is sure to be Tori’s next big hit and revolves around her reminiscing over what a relationship with her ex-lover could have been like.
Bodyache by Purity Ring
Canadian electronic music duo, Purity Ring, was formed in 2010 and is made up of vocalist Megan James and instrumentalist Corin Roddick. The group released their second studio album, Another Eternity, in February 2015 and saw it reach #1 on the dance/electronic charts as well as #4 on Billboard’s alternative charts. “bodyache” was commercially released as the 3rd single from the project and is the perfect electro-dreampop track for summer nights.
679 by Fetty Wap
The summer has already been deemed Fetty Wap’s based on the success of his single “Trap Queen” and his selection as part of XXL magazine’s 2015 Freshman Class. He has been featured on Baauer’s “Promises” and Natalie La Rose’s “Around The World” but his previously released music is now coming to the forefront. “679” surfaced roughly five months ago but is now getting the commercial release that it merits and serves as the perfect follow-up to “Trap Queen” with a quotable chorus and the unique singing/rapping combination that Fetty Wap has made his own.
The Trillest by Meek Mill
Meek Mill’s sophomore album, Dreams Worth More Than Money, was scheduled to be made available in 2014 but the release date came and went and DWMTM became one of the most anticipated hip-hop albums of 2015. The project was finally released on June 29th and is packed with features from the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, The Weeknd and Future. Singles such as “All Eyes on You” and “R.I.C.O” are instant favorites from this album but “The Trillest” is a track where Meek shines as he flies solo and talks about the inner struggles he has faced throughout his rap career.
Face the Sun by Miguel ft. Lenny Kravitz
R&B artist Miguel made an enormous impression with his sophomore studio album, Kaleidoscope Dream, that featured singles such as “Adorn”, “Do You…” and “How Many Drinks?” and reached #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums charts. He has been featured on songs from J. Cole and A$AP Rocky within the last few years but his latest solo offering is his third studio album, Wildheart, that was released on June 29th. The whole project is a must-listen and rated as best new music by Pitchfork but a standout track for us is “face the sun” which features Miguel’s soothing voice over Lenny Kravitz’s lush guitar.
Dibs by Kelsea Ballerini
Kelsea Ballerini recently released her debut studio album, The First Time, with lead single “Love Me Like You Mean It” that reached #5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and #1 on the Country Airplay charts. This hit makes Kelsea the first female artist to have their debut single take the top spot since Carrie Underwood last did it in 2006. The project features the pop-country blend that has been proven successful for the likes of Taylor Swift and “Dibs” is sure to be her next hit as she talks about making things official with a boy.
Summertime by The Mowgli’s
Best known for their hit song “San Francisco” that reached #11 on Billboard’s alternative charts, The Mowgli’s are an alternative rock band from southern California. The group recently made their 12-track, second major label album, Kids In Love, available in April 2015 but their latest hit is single “Summertime”. This track contains crescendos and echoing that combine with summer-themed lyrics that are sure to land The Mowgli’s their second charting song.
