If you’re anything like me, the thought of hiking across campus and dodging piles of snow while simultaneously braving a negative wind chill only sends you deeper under the warm covers of your bed. Unfortunately for us, this thought may very soon be a reality with the lower temperatures sneaking up as each day passes. Let’s not forget to mention November also means finals are right around the corner. However, as much as the month of November draws up these dreadful feelings, there’s so many reasons to feel OUABlessed this month
1. Thanksgiving Break
There really aren’t too many better things to a college student than the opportunity to eat a somewhat questionable amount of homemade food and lie around the entire day with no responsibilities on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving also means seeing family and loved ones (although you may have to use some creativity when getting interrogated with the dreaded, “What are you doing with the rest of your life?” question.) Even if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, you still get a five-day break from school and who doesn’t love that?
2. Winter Break is only 17 days from Thanksgiving Break!
Just when you thought five days off from school sounded great, don’t forget after Thanksgiving Break, there’s only seventeen days until we get nearly an ENTIRE MONTH off. Need I say more?
3. Black Friday
Who doesn’t love incredible sales? Whether you’re out finding some gifts for friends and family or finally getting the thing you’ve been saving up for the entire semester, Black Friday has great deals if you’re willing to miss out on some sleep. Black Friday is also a super fun way to spend time with friends or family when everyone gets pumped for conquering the shopping scene.
4. Winter Activities
November means winter is just around the corner. Although the cold and snow aren’t great for walking to class, they are great for snowball fights, sledding, ice skating, sipping on hot cocoa, and an Oval so scenic you would think it’s a Christmas card.
5. No one will judge what you wear to class.
When it starts to get as cold as it does, people start breaking out the heavy duty winter gear. When you’re just trying to survive so you can make it to your 9 am, chances are you’re wearing a coat so fluffy that it may give you the resemblance of a marshmallow, a scarf wrapped so closely around your neck it doesn’t look like you have one all while your face is covered to the point where maybe just your eyes are showing. Underneath it all, you’re decked out in a groutfit or some ridiculous sweatshirt and sweatpants color combo. And if you’ve never worn your pajamas to class in the winter, you’re either lying to yourself or you need to start living life. The best part of this all, is that no one cares how ridiculous you look because we are all doing the exact same thing.
6. The OSU vs. *ichigan Football Game
Now let’s cut to the chase of arguably the best part of November: the OSU vs. *ichigan game. If you think you’ve experienced school spirit, I guarantee you haven’t experienced it until you’ve been to this football game. Students go as far as crossing out every “M” on campus to jumping in Mirror Lake in the freezing cold all in preparation for facing this historical rivalry. (Reminder that the Mirror Lake Jump is not supported by the University.) The day of the game, the campus is electric and the feeling of unity throughout the university is unlike any other.
7. Beat *ichigan Craft Night
Too excited to wait for the *ichigan game to get into the school spirit? Fear not! TONIGHT, November 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, students are welcomed to come to the Beat *ichigan Craft Night. Located in the Performance Hall of the Ohio Union, you’ll be able to create all the necessary spirit decor and apparel their hearts desire. Photos from last year’s event can be found here: http://www.ohiounionphotos.org/OUAB-Events/20142015/Beat-Michigan-Craft-Night/
So if you’re looking for some reasons to beat the oncoming winter blues and the stress of finals, there are plenty of reasons to feel OUABlessed!
