I’ve seen Remember the Titans maybe twenty times. In my small town in Indiana, basically everyone loves this movie. I come from a high school that would play it during finals week, no matter what class you were in. My senior year, I learned and performed the Titans’ dance at the homecoming pep rally. We were obsessed.
If you don’t know the story of the Titans, it is heartbreaking and heartwarming. TC Williams high school becomes desegregated, and Coach Boone is given the task of building a desegregated football team. The town is against him. The school is against him. Sometimes, even the players are against him. After a lot of fighting, growing, and then bonding, the TC Williams Titans manage to go undefeated and prove to their town that race is not a barrier to greatness.
The Titans are not a just a story brought to life by Hollywood magic. The TC Williams Titans were a real team, with real problems that they overcame and a real drive to win. The authenticity of this story makes it not just interesting, but inspirational.
On September 26th, the REAL Coach Boone will be here at Ohio State to talk about his experience and overcoming adversity with the team that’ll never be forgotten. Don’t miss out on hearing the Titans’ story from the man who led them himself.
