On Monday, February 27th in collaboration with Alpha Psi Lambda, OUAB is pleased to announce that it will be bringing known actress Diane Guerrero to speak about her family’s experience with immigration.
Diane is best known by fans for her work as Maritza Ramos on Orange is the New Black.
But what a lot of fans don’t know is her family story. Diane was born in the United States to Colombian immigrants. Throughout the entire immigration process they were denied and eventually sent back to Columbia leaving Diane on her own.
Today she uses her platform as an actress to promote immigration reform and inspire others to get involved.
To find out more of her family history check out this eye-opening LA Times interview: http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-oe-guerrero-immigration-family-separation-20141116-story.html. More importantly, however, remember that you can hear her story in person on Monday, February 27.
